Landscape Category | Honourable Mentions 2015

During the selection of the best project in the category Landscape we decided to highlight with a special mention the works presented by:

Maria Kostareva | Russia
Lines of Etna

In Lines of Etna, Maria Kostareva links together the existing relation between man and nature with landscape images that play on abstraction. According to her «Man and nature interaction is a very important aspect of my work. I find the images of the Ocean in Andrej Tarkovskij's movie Solaris very interesting. Here nature is represented as a unique living organism where its ability to influence a person is highlighted, its ability to read his thoughts and generate visions. I like considering nature as reflection of a man and this does not mean nature is less important for me».

Fabrizio Dessì | Italy
Away from Home

In Away from Home, Fabrizio Dessì explores the interaction between man and the landscape represented in this case by the coastline. He states «I have kept some distance between me and the subjects in order to leave space to a more reflective and contemplative point of view which as some of the subjects portrayed, are not protagonists but an essential part of the landscape. Far away from the chaotic city and its noises, from the commitments and the daily routine. Far away, observing and scanning the horizon or simply looking for a place to reconnect with nature in its absolute quietness».

María Fernanda Casco Leyva | Mexico
Into the Sea

María Fernanda Casco Leyva's Into the Sea it is some kind of introspective self portrait where the sea represents some sort of mirror in which the author recognises herself. She writes, «The sea is unpredictable, it reminds us how fragile the human being is and despite his feeling of vulnerability he finds a way to dream. In my case, the sea evokes feelings of dependency, the fascination of the Unknown, the desire of everything that does not belong to me. Through these images, I explore the duality of my feelings as reflected by water. Tranquility and violence, anxiety and passivity: the way the sea allows me to see myself».
