Mishka Henner’s first Italian solo exhibition, Seeing is Believing. Vedere per Credere, opened on 6 March 2026 at Palazzo Santa Margherita, Modena, within the spaces of Fondazione Ago. Curated by Chiara Dall’Olio and running until 3 May 2026, the exhibition analyses the metamorphosis of photographic language in the age of artificial intelligence, effectively updating the discourse on the very nature of photography.
The display features 25 previously unreleased works organised into four sections:
The Word: A semantic investigation into the modern definition of photography based on search engine queries. The Bible & The Icon: A series of snapshots generated via AI tools that reconstruct biblical episodes and hagiographic iconography, challenging the perceived veracity of the visual document. The Relic. La reliquia: Comprising uchronia-themed images, again generated by AI to emulate Polaroid shots taken in distant eras. The New Light: An immersive conclusion dedicated to light as a creative energy, suspended between the printed page and the digital screen."The exhibition explores the role of the image and contemporary belief systems," states curator Chiara Dall’Olio. "Mishka Henner updates the function of medieval sacred imagery to reveal modern mechanisms of power and communication: in a world where photography often bypasses the camera, the act of seeing remains the primary driver of believing."
Born in Brussels in 1976 and based in the UK, Mishka Henner is one of the most radical voices in the critique of contemporary vision systems. Utilising satellites, surveillance feeds, and artificial intelligence, Henner deconstructs photography no longer as a record of truth, but as a system of manipulation and power.
From the celebrated abstractions of Feedlots to recent investigations into the artifice of authority such as The Last Judgement, his practice has been acclaimed by major global institutions, from MoMA to the Centre Pompidou. A recipient of the ICP Infinity Award and a Deutsche Börse Photography Prize finalist, Henner maps the boundaries of an aesthetic where technology reveals what remains invisible to the human eye.
