The silent dialogue between two masters of the gaze is renewed in a publication exploring still life and the persistence of light. Joel Meyerowitz’s Morandi's Objects: The Complete Archive of Casa Morandi returns in an expanded new edition which, following the original 2016 release, features over 130 previously unpublished photographs, a critical essay by Amanda Renshaw, and an updated bibliography.

In the spring of 2015, Joel Meyerowitz crossed the threshold of number 36 Via Fondazza in Bologna, immersing himself in the private universe of Giorgio Morandi. Within those austere rooms, where the painter distilled reality into absolute geometries, Meyerowitz encountered the physical inventory of his poetics: vases, boxes, shells, and bottles—objects that, for decades, had waited upon shelves and floors to once again become the protagonists of the gaze.

Half a century after Morandi’s passing, Meyerowitz did not merely document a space; he engaged in a profound phenomenological immersion. Handling each relic with almost sacral care, the American photographer repositioned the objects upon the painter’s original table, allowing the very same shadows to once again traverse their surfaces.
The result is a work of dual authorship: Meyerowitz has isolated every single element of the archive, restoring its iconic individuality while simultaneously transfiguring it through his own chromatic and compositional sensibility. For the first time, the entire corpus of objects from Casa Morandi is presented in its entirety, offering a comprehensive visual mapping of the creative horizon of the Bolognese master.
We covered the first edition of the volume on FPmag back in March 2016, dedicating a portfolio to it which you can view by clicking here: .
