A yearlong search

The formula adopted by the organisers of the Angkor Photo Festival & Workshops is quite destabilising to those who are accustomed to similar events held in Europe. For this reason after analysing the vast programme we decided to turn to Françoise Callier, the programme coordinator of the event, who explained how the long job of selecting images that are brought to the exhibition or screened during the evenings which follow one another during the entire festival week. With great willingness Françoise allowed us to frame how in depth and eclectic is the research that is the basis of an event that aims, among other things, to place under a light international Asian photographers that too often produce works of high level, but then find it difficult to cross national or continental borders. Let us leave the floor to Françoise Callier who talks about her work as coordinator.

Amina Okuyeva poses for the photo in a flat she shares with her mother and son. She was on Maidan from December 2014 working as a medical volunteer. In that time her husband was in prison accused of the attempt to kill Russian President Putin.
