Waiting for Les Rencontres 2015

All is ready for Les Rencontres d'Arles 2015. The program of the 46th annual festival – which will take place in Arles from July 6th to September 20th, 2015 – will be as usual very rich, but will propose many novelties. «This year is marked by the arrival of a new director, Sam Stourdz, successor to François Hébel, chosen to develop the festival to encompass all forms of photography and images – explains Fleur Pellerin, Minister of culture and communication – For his first Rencontres, he wanted particularly to highlight the cross-fertilisation of artistic disciplines, presenting exhibitions in which photography is counterpointed by music, cinema, or architecture... This year, once again, nearly fifty exhibitions make up the programming of this photographic promenade through varied sites in the heart of an incomparable heritage. We also celebrate the inauguration of latelierdesphotographes.com, a free educational platform offering introductory workshops in reading images, directed to a wide range of viewers».
The opening week (July 6th-12th) will kick off the festival with an ample calendar of meetings with the artists, conferences, screenings, workshops, night events and much more. The numerous scheduled exhibitions will be divided into several section – Rereading, Resonances, I am writing to you from a far-off country, The platforms of the visible, Odd collectors, Emergences, Arles books, Associated program – which will involve, as usual, both emerging authors and internationally renowned artists. The first section will contemplate two major exhibitions dedicated to the work of Walker Evans and Stephen Shore. «For forty-six years, thanks to the inspiration of its founders and the pugnacity of its successive directors, the Rencontres d’Arles has been, and will continue to be, at the side of the artists and sensitive to the public – said the new Artistic Director Sam Stourdzé – For, like no other discipline, photography and its artists awake the gaze, provoke dialogue, and encourage encounters».
The 46th edition of the Rencontres d'Arles is being staged in honor of Lucien Clergue, founder of the festival who died in November 2014. Further information is available here.
