Festival Photo La Gacilly 2017

The La Gacilly Photo Festival has reached its 14th edition, confirming it, as proudly proclaimed by its own organisers, as the largest outdoor photography event in France. La Gacilly is a delightful Breton town with a population of just 4000 inhabitants. This figure, apparently irrelevant, becomes particularly significant as it relates to the organisers forecast on the number of visitors. Based on previous editions, around 400,000 visitors are expected to attend the Festival, something like a hundred times the resident population.
The 2017 edition takes place from 3rd June to 30th September and is focused on three thematic themes: La photographie africaine, which features seventeen exhibitions dedicated to the study of the relationship between the medium and African cultures, Homme - Animal: le face-à-face, focusing on the reflection that our society imposes on the relationship with animals and, finally, Enjeux Environnementaux, the section that includes three exhibitions dedicated to environmental issues.
As always the device of the set-up that uses with intelligence the urban and environmental characteristics of La Gacilly is interesting, bringing them together in the Breton territory, thanks to the provision of ad hoc exhibition modalities, even far away cultures which express and explain themselves through images.
