George Tatge: the Etruscan Gate 1:24 min

George Tatge relates how the photography of the Etruscan Arch in Perugia began, thanks to which he won the tender for the realisation of a book on the city of Perugia.

George Tatge was born in Istanbul in 1951, from an Italian mother and American father. He spent his adolescence between Europe and the Middle East, and then moved to the United States, where he graduated in English Literature at Beloit College in Wisconsin and began studying photography with the Hungarian Michael Simon. In 1973 he moved to Italy, working first as a journalist in Rome and then in Todi, where he stayed for twelve years writing and pursuing his photographic research. The first book, Perugia old land new earth, comes out in 1984. Since the eighties his works began to become part of important collections and he is involved in numerous workshops and exhibitions around the world. From 1986 to 2003 he is technical and photographic director of Fratelli Alinari of Florence, for which he conducts photographic campaigns throughout the Italian territory later published in several volumes. In 2010 he was awarded the Friuli Venezia Giulia Prize for Photography. He currently lives in Florence, Italy.
