Peru, the Sacred Valley

The introductory text explains to visitors that Castro Prieto, in 1990, had transferred his darkroom to Cuzco, where he had realised the best prints ever made before that time on the work by Martin Chambi. After twenty years the work of the Peruvian photographer becomes the inspiration for a series of photographic journeys in the South American state in which Castro Prieto finds his own key of interpretation that separates him from the imprint of the Peruvian photographer while retracing his footsteps. The use of the colour and updated awareness of almost a century or more of the history of world photography make the images totally autonomous in their development, while recognising at a level of external contexts the extensive knowledge of the work by Chambi.
The exhibition is definitely very rewarding to the eye of the visitor, who can come face to face with the alteration of implicit reality in the photographic expression. Aptitude underlined by the frequent use of unnatural blurring that propose as unusual underlining for those not accustomed to seeing images taken with appliances floaters. You leave the Chapelle du Thiers-Ordre after seeing powerful images, sometimes to the limit of the unbelievable, with eyes full of beauty of the antique flavour and, if you have a sensitivity and a minimum awareness, with interesting reflections on the nature of the medium.
All very nice, but with photojournalism, albeit radical transformation, what does that have to do with anything? [ S. I. ]
