Dubai Transmutations

Wednesday, March 11, at the Musée suisse de l’appareil photographique in Vevey, opens the exhibit Dubai Transmutations by Martin Becka, photographer and teacher from Czechoslovakia.
In this work, dedicated to Dubai, Becka combines the use of a process going back to the beginnings of photography, printing the negative on wax paper, with the use of travelling cameras and large formats (up to 40x50cm) and the representation of a completely modern, even futuristic subjet, whose print positives are produced by contact with salted paper and then gold-toned.
The beauty of these images that border on the sublime, and the juxtaposition of time in suspension imposed by the use of XIXth century processes, confronting a contemporary subject at a hectic tempo, is completely in line with the themed exhibitions proposed by the Museum.
