Life is on New High

Bombay is considered India’s financial capital. Its status comes from the fact that nowadays it is the city where the biggest number of tower skyscrapers is being built. These are not only symbols of a notable economic power, but also of elevation and detachment from the shantytowns underneath, demanding a very high price to the surrounding environment. The contrast created is not only social, but also on the level of the image and imagery. It is all very evident in the adverts proposing landscapes and wide open space interiors that have nothing to do with the claustrophobic dimension of those huge skyscrapers perceived both when looking at them from the outside and when living inside them.
The setting in the magnificently crumbling La Voirie alternates the big building construction prints to the smaller adverts and creates a contrast that evokes the clear separation between the shantytowns of the city and the people who live in the skyscrapers. Yet another set up where the extraordinary simplicity serves the suggestions proposed by the pictures and the topic of the entire event. [ S. I. ]
