Dreaming Leone

It was the natural setting in which Western films came to life directed by Sergio Leone. We are talking about the desert of Tabernas, in the area of Almeria, where between the 70s and 80s was made, thanks also to the relatively low cost, a sort of European version of Hollywood dedicated to the production of the so-called spaghetti westerns. In the 90s, however, the rise in costs led to the abandonment of the sets in the area of Almeria.
The abandonment by the film industry has pushed those who made a living from it to organise shows for easily satisfied tourists who are inspired by the epic westerns. The result is the paradox of places, which emulates the past that have been converted into... imitations of imitations. From the decline has, however, sprung new related activities by the interpreters of the staging, who still live in the area taking advantage of tourism. Over all hovers the sense of an ending that, already postponed once, is about to fall back on the heads of the protagonists. In the air there is a sense of decay and, at the same time, of suspension that the images taken by Deprit transmit with strength, so that the feeling seems to extend to the walls of the halls of the Fortress of Girifalco which host the exhibition.
Some interesting choices of preparation, such as images that invade the walls with photographs / images of the film sets that, the passing through of visitors, providing an alienating impression, similar to the one that supposedly proves who visits those places today. Nice the choice of the story for its socio-economic implications, interesting, at least potentially, some choices are in the phase of being published... No more. [ S. I. ]
